Electrical consumption needs to be metered once the power from the electricity network has entered your property via an overhead wiring system, an underground wiring system, or a combination of both, and has made its way to the meter box.

This category of our licence allows us to handle and install supply authority equipment such as meters which measure your energy usage and provide power to energise the wiring in your installation at the main switchboard.

Anything before the "main circuit breaker/ main switch" requires a level 2 licence. This includes main switch feed, service fuses, service neutral link, meters etc. Anything beyond the "main circuit breaker/main switch" can be worked on under a normal electrician’s licence. This includes final circuits, earthing, consumers’ neutral link, switchboard, etc.

There are many different meters available: single phase meters, three phase meters, off-peak meters, smart meters, solar gross meters and solar net meters. Each one is different to suit the individual property requirements.

Dependant on your habitual electricity usage, it may be advantageous to consider time of use metering, which allows you to benefit from peak, off-peak and shoulder rates as opposed to a single flat rate. This is further explained in off-peak metering.

Consumers must make sure not to allow incorrectly licensed or unlicensed persons to conduct this category of electrical work.
