TOU metering explained
in Sydney.
Benefits of “time of use” metering
Changing your habitual usage of energy may save you money off your electricity bill, along with the installation of a TOU meter, or Time Of Use, meter. This will allow you to take advantage of various tariffs (charge rates) during the day’s 24-hour period.

How does it work?
The periods are divided into Peak, Shoulder and Off Peak sectors - each attracting a different charge rate as opposed to a flat rate continuous charge rate (tariff) across your usage. Actual rate information is available from your energy retailer.
The majority of our appliances today have integrated timers enabling us to operate them whenever it suits us without being in front of it to push the start button. Having your washing machine or dryer cycle at 5am for example, with a potential 75% saving, doesn't sound bad at all.
