CATEGORY 3 OVERHEAD POWER LINE CONTRACTORS SYDNEY NSW

What is overhead wiring?

Power from the electricity network may enter your property via a few different methods, one of which is via overhead wiring. The majority of Sydney suburbs have an overhead electricity network where the power available from the electricity grid is located up on the telegraph poles on the street.

This is the most common and cost-effective method of supplying power to a property. This involves a direct overhead connection from your property (point of attachment) to the electricity distributor’s network.

It may be either one phase or three-phase, depending on your installation and requirements. Overhead services may also supply power to a property on a temporary basis for construction, known as a temporary builders service (TBS).

Our load requirements are constantly increasing: when upgrading switchboards, renovating, extending, adding larger or additional appliances such as large ovens, spas, spa/pool heaters, central heating, air conditioning, etc. Your service cables and consumers mains should be looked at and assessed whether they can carry the additional demand in power you require to your switchboard. This is an area constantly overlooked by owners and electricians and is a recipe for disaster.

Advantages of an overhead wiring system

  • Cost-effective method for bringing power in from the network
  • Usually the most straightforward means of supply
  • Can be either single or three phase.
  • No excavation is required
